Topical, patch or oral: which CBD format is right for you?

The biggest decision isn’t how many milligrams — it’s how the CBD reaches you. Each format works differently, and many people combine two.

Ingredient guide: what’s inside and why

Every ingredient in a Basic Jane formula has a job — delivering, cooling, soothing or setting the mood. Tap any ingredient to learn more.

CBD (isolate) cannabidiol

CBD is a non-intoxicating compound from the hemp plant that interacts with the body’s endocannabinoid system. It does not cause a “high.” Basic Jane uses CBD isolate, so our products are designed to be THC-free, and every batch is third-party tested.

CBDA cannabidiolic acid

CBDA is the raw, acidic form of CBD found in the living hemp plant before it is heated. Boost Mints pair CBDA with CBD for our extra-strength oral option.

Menthol cooling

Menthol activates the skin’s cold-sensing receptors (TRPM8), which is why you feel a cooling sensation within seconds. It’s one of the most widely used ingredients in topical relief products and also helps other ingredients move into the skin.

Peppermint oil cooling · aroma

Aloe soothing

Aloe vera soothes and hydrates the skin. In the patch, it keeps the skin comfortable over hours of wear; in creams and gels, it gives a smooth, non-sticky feel.

MSM carrier

MSM (methylsulfonylmethane) is a naturally occurring sulfur compound. We use it as a carrier to help ingredients penetrate the skin — because CBD only helps if it gets past the skin barrier.

CoQ10 absorption

Coenzyme Q10 is an antioxidant your body makes naturally. In the Basic Jane patch, it’s part of the delivery system that helps CBD move through the skin steadily over up to 12 hours.

Black pepper extract absorption

Black pepper extract contains piperine, a compound widely studied for its ability to help the body absorb other ingredients. It’s included in the patch alongside CoQ10.

Common questions

Should I use a topical, a patch or an oral CBD product?

Use a topical (cream, gel, spray or roller) for fast, on-the-spot relief in one area. Choose a patch when you want steady, hands-free support for up to 12 hours. Choose an oral product like CBD Mints when you want whole-body support or a daily routine. Many people combine a topical with a patch or an oral.

What’s the best Basic Jane product for neck and shoulder tension?

For quick relief, Relieve CBD Spray is easy to apply to the neck and shoulders without mess. For tension that lingers, a CBD Patch on the back of the shoulder or upper back gives up to 12 hours of steady support. Many customers use both. Read our neck, shoulder & back guide.

How long does each format last?

Topicals are typically felt within minutes and last up to about 4 hours. Patches build over 30–60 minutes and last up to 12 hours. Oral products take 30–90 minutes and may last 6–8 hours, depending on your metabolism.

Will Basic Jane products make me feel high?

No. CBD is non-intoxicating, and Basic Jane uses CBD isolate so our products are designed to be THC-free. Every batch is third-party tested — see our lab results.

Can I use more than one product at a time?

Yes. Layering is common — for example, a patch for all-day support plus a spray for quick top-ups, or a gel during the day and cream at night.

Where should I place a CBD patch?

For targeted support, place the patch directly on or near the area, such as the lower back, hip, knee or shoulder. For whole-body support, place it on a venous area such as the inner wrist or inner arm. Apply to clean, dry skin that isn’t broken or irritated.

Is CBD safe to use with my medications?

CBD can interact with some medications, especially when taken orally. If you take prescription medication, are pregnant or nursing, or have a medical condition, talk with your healthcare provider before using CBD. Information for healthcare providers.
